Turkey halts all trade with Israel over military actions in Gaza
A Turkish Trade Ministry statement said “export and import transactions in relation to Israel have been stopped, covering all products.” Turkish officials would coordinate with Palestinian authorities to ensure that Palestinians are not affected by the suspension of imports and exports, the ministry said. The ministry described the step as the “second phase” of measures against Israel, adding that other steps would follow until Israel “allows an uninterrupted and sufficient flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.”

The Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) has rejected demands by protesters to review its relations with Israeli universities, its interim director Jean Basseres says, prompting some students to say they would start a hunger strike in protest. Prison release of Golden Dawn founder angers Greek anti-fascists
The news sparked fury among members of the country’s anti-fascist movement. “It’s a scandalous decision,” said Petros Constantinou, the chief coordinator of the front, known as Keerfa. “It did not need to happen and will give the green light to fascists to regroup and continue attacks ahead of the European elections.” He said operatives of the far-right, ultra-nationalist party still ran branches in Thessaloniki despite it being officially disbanded.

Jeepney strike under way in Philippines as deadline to modernise nears
The jeepney is the backbone of the Philippines’ transport system. The customised, privately-owned buses, which look like a cross between a Jeep and a van and are decorated in flamboyant colours, ply routes in neighbourhood streets and city centres, offering rides for as little as 13 pesos (23 US cents). They have featured in pop songs and films – Pope Francis even travelled through Manila in a jeepney-inspired popemobile.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy broke federal labor law with anti-union remarks=
Jassy told CNBC in April 2022 that if employees were to vote in a union, they may be less empowered in the workplace and things would become “much slower” and “more bureaucratic.” Similarly, in the Bloomberg interview, Jassy remarked, “if you see something on the line that you think could be better for your team or you or your customers, you can’t just go to your manager and say, ‘Let’s change it.’”

UT Austin says protesters carried guns and assaulted people. Prosecutors haven't seen proof.
UT Austin said Tuesday night that pro-Palestinian groups with ties to "escalating protests" across the country brought weapons and assaulted people during the rallies. On Wednesday, Garza told KUT the university's statement — and its insistence that demonstrators had "guns, buckets of large rocks, bricks, steel-enforced wood planks, mallets and chains" — was "interesting." “It’s concerning … we work in the world of evidence and facts, and we have not seen a single weapons charge or an assault charge," she said.

Union plans strike vote over crackdown on University of California Gaza protests
“The use and sanction of violent force to curtail peaceful protest is an attack on free speech and the right to demand change, and the university must sit down with students, unions, and campus organizations to negotiate, rather than escalate,” stated an announcement of the strike vote from UAW Local 4811. Earlier this year, the union voted by a margin of more than nine to one in favor of supporting a ceasefire, according to the announcement.

Rutgers and University of Minnesota reach resolutions with Gaza protesters
The agreement at Rutgers was reached on Thursday after students met with administration to present their demands, some of which include: divesting from corporations participating in or benefitting from Israel, terminating Rutgers’ partnership with Tel Aviv University, accepting at least 10 displaced students from Gaza, and displaying the flags of occupied peoples – such as Palestinians, Kurds, and Kashmiris – alongside other existing international flags on campus. While eight out of 10 demands were met, Rutgers students, faculty and alumni are still fighting for the remaining two: the actual call for divestment as well as severing ties with Tel Aviv University.

‘No surprise’: US students slam Biden’s comments on Gaza encampments
“Dissent is essential to democracy, but dissent must never lead to disorder or to denying the rights of others so students can finish the semester and their college education,” Biden continued. “There’s a right to protest but not the right to cause chaos.” Biden’s comments came shortly after police arrested at least 132 student protesters at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), early on Thursday and cleared out an encampment.

CPP Statement On The Occasion Of International Labor Day 2024
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the vanguard of the Filipino proletariat, extends its revolutionary solidarity to workers all over the world on the occasion of International Labor Day. The May 1st declaration was done in Paris 135 years ago today, to commemorate the May 1, 1896 Haymarket strike in Chicago, USA, demanding an eight-hour working day, that was violently suppressed by the police. More than a century since, workers all over the world, along with other toiling classes and sectors, continue to fight for their rights and aspirations, amid intolerable conditions brought about by unprecedented crisis of the global capitalist system. They desire to wage revolution and bring history back to the course of socialism. In the face of a chronic crisis of joblessness, workers’ wages continue to be pulled down below the daily costs of living. They are subjected to even worse forms of exploitation and oppression, as profit-hungry financial oligarchs and monopoly capitalists race against one another to accumulate even greater wealth.

India’s Adivasi Communities Are Facing Brutal Repression
In the mineral-rich heartland of India’s Bastar region in the state of Chhattisgarh, a severe onslaught against indigenous communities, known as Adivasis, is currently unfolding. The Indian government officially recognizes the major Adivasi community in the region, the Madia, as a “particularly vulnerable tribal group.” Despite this recognition, the ongoing state-led aggression against them poses a grave threat to their existence, putting thousands of lives at stake. At the heart of this unfolding tragedy lies the Indian government’s steadfast commitment, echoed by the declarations of Home Minister Amit Shah, to eradicate Maoist revolutionaries by the end of 2024. In their pursuit of a “Maoist-free India,” state forces have intensified their operations in 2024. Over the past four months, they have killed ninety-two Adivasis and Maoists. On April 16 alone, security forces killed twenty-nine Adivasis and Maoists, fifteen of whom were women. To carry out this bloodshed, the Indian state has deployed not only thousands of local police operatives but also more than ten thousand troops from border security and paramilitary forces as well as special counterinsurgent units. They have established hundreds of military camps across Adivasi terrain to terrorize and eliminate them. Military and police camps have been strategically established at intervals of three to five kilometers to saturate Bastar. In Chhattisgarh, there are nearly three hundred such camps, with Bastar alone hosting about a hundred. Each camp accommodates between five hundred and two thousand personnel, armed with heavy weaponry, and supported by drones of various sizes. Additionally, every camp is equipped with two mine-proof vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, and war tanks. Furthermore, the state is resorting to the use of drones to drop bombs in Adivasi areas. This aggression illustrates how the Indian state is endangering its indigenous people. The question remains: Why?

Breaking out of subcultures: the need for organisation and strategy.
This short pamphlet was written and published as an addendum to an introductory workshop on Especifismo – a contemporary theory of organized anarchism – that we hosted during the Winter Moot 2024 of Earth First!. The text aims to identify the main issues with anarchism in the imperial core today with lack of strategy and the absorption of anarchism itself into subcultures. It introduces Especifismo as a theory of strategy for organised anarchists, and highlights its relevance in the current conditions of global crisis, while pointing out some open questions on approaches to build popular power along the way.
