Arizona supreme court upholds 1864 law banning almost all abortions
The justices said Arizona could enforce a 1864 near-total abortion ban, first passed before Arizona became a state, that went unenforced for decades after the US supreme court legalized abortion nationwide in the 1973 decision Roe v Wade. However, the justices also ruled to hold off on requiring the state to enforce the ban for 14 days, in order to allow advocates to ask a lower court to pause it again.

From Ang Bayan: NPA Celebrates 55th Anniversary Of It’s Founding
United in spirit and with clenched fists, cadres and members of the Communist Party of the Philippines, fighters and commanders of the New People’s Army (NPA), allied organizations of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and the revolutionary masses celebrated the 55th anniversary of the NPA on March 29. On the occasion of the anniversary, the Central Committee urged forces to look back at the achievements and shortcomings of the people’s army during the past year, draw lessons, and forge plans to make bigger strides in waging revolutionary armed struggle in the coming year. The Central Committee was pleased to report that the call for a rectification movement issued by the Party last December 2023 had been wholeheartedly welcomed by all regional Party committees and commands of the NPA. “They have responded positively and are presently carrying out summing-up conferences and study meetings to identify the errors and shortcomings in order to rectify these, and steadily and comprehensively carry forward all revolutionary tasks,” according to the Central Committee.

The UAW Is Supporting Mexican Autoworker Organizing
The United Auto Workers (UAW) announced February 23 that it will provide material support to Mexican autoworkers organizing in the independent union movement. As a member of the UAW executive board, I’m proud that our union understands how the futures of autoworkers in the United States and Mexico are tied together. Our Mexico solidarity project is about empowering our membership to win strong contracts and protecting our jobs in the United States — and it’s also about ensuring justice for workers across the border. The auto industry is not nationally bound, and neither should the labor movement be. For every record contract there will come the threat of moving production to Mexico, where a partnership between the companies and the corrupt company unions keep wages low — a whipsaw that oppresses workers on both sides of the border. The irony of free trade is that even with expanded production, Mexico still imports most of the vehicles sold to its own people. Meanwhile 75 percent of Mexican-made vehicles are shipped to the United States, and they do not cost any less because they’re produced with cheaper labor.

V. I. Lenin: “Left-Wing” Childishness
The publication by a small group of “Left Communists” of their journal, Kommunist (No. 1, April 20, 1918), and of their “theses”, strikingly confirms my views expressed in the pamphlet The Immediate Tasks of the Soviet Government. There could not be better confirmation, in political literature, of the utter naïvete of the defence of petty-bourgeois sloppiness that is sometimes concealed by “Left” slogans. It is useful and necessary to deal with the arguments of “Left Communists” because they are characteristic of the period we are passing through. They show up with exceptional clarity the negative side of the “core” of this period. They are instructive, because the people we are dealing with are the best of those who have failed to understand the present period, people who by their knowledge and loyalty stand far, far above the ordinary representatives of the same mistaken views, namely, the Left Socialist-Revolutionaries.
